We are doing out "Lasts". Last Friday, Last Party, Last weekend etc. A couple of weekends ago, when we started to pack things, it hit home what we were doing. We have to have a large breakfast on the ferry going from Aberdeen to Lerwick as we arrive New Year's Eve and we are not sure how long the shops will open for. We have been invited to dinner on New Year's Day so that is very kind. I expect we will still be shell shocked after moving into our rented accommodation, leaving the family behind and the journey!!!!!

We have bought a new shed, dishwasher and washing machine to leave behind for the boys. Santa came early. Still it will soon be Christmas, then after Christmas the serious packing can begin. It is difficult to know what to take, except for thermals and more thermals as the house that we are renting is furnished.

I have already got an application form for a job so my dreams of being a house-husband does not look like lasting long

C'est la vie or whatever it is in Gaelic.... Norwegian.....

We will get around to answering them.

My step-sister thinks it is going to be great having me as a neighboure. She lives near Inverness and we will be on the Shetlands. Ony a few hundred miles away. Neighbours!!! Well I suppose that is the optimistic way that the Scots look at distance.

you can see in this picture there is not much around.

Not even any trees.

Well last weekend went well. I managed to sort out a couple of pcs. Also do some training. With Halloween over and Guy Fawkes very close, theat means Christmas is not far away. I have started to buy presents already. At least I know my mobile will work in the Shetlands so even if I cannot sort out the broadband, Wanadoo say we should be able to get 2Meg. At least texts will work.

I sill need to find a job to keep me out of trouble. Though I am looking forward to a cup of coffee and watching the world go by at Somerfilds or any other cafe in Lerwick.

So many things to organise, so little time......

 Comments

Where does time go......

When I was young I thought that school holidays were too long.... But now I just don't know where time flies. There is an echo in here somewhere... somewhere.

Well last Saturday Plymouth struggled to score in extra time to force a draw with Luton. So there were no fights between my step-son and I. He had had enough problems as it was.

My boss cam beck from Gran Canaria this week, he is very brown. I thought about handing in my notice but found out that if I leave before 31 Dec I loose all this years bonus. So I will have to think about this.

We go a quote for the removals this week. £4,800 just to move a bed, some sofas and half a dozen boxes!!!! Money for old rope. But I suppose it will take 2 men about six day to load / drive and /unload everything.

This coming weekend we are going to Julia's Mum and Dads. Going to try and sort their computer out. Still not got our network up and running yet. But I have sorted out a pc to take to the Shetlands, but no ISP yet. Wanadoo looks favourite. Any one any suggestions?

We had an email from the Baptist church in Lerwick, they sound very friendly. They have a service on New Years Eve, the day we arrive!!!!

I still need to learn how to upload photos. In fact I think I will try to upload a photo of the Shetlands now. Fingers crossed.

Thi is looking at Brae from the west.

Tuesday we went out to cellibrate our anniversary and on Wednesday Julia took me to the Classic FM concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Earlier in the year we had talked about going to the concert, but we were not sure if we would still be in England.

But we are stll here and we enjoyed the concert. Although my bum got numb at times.

We have started to get the estimates for our removals and we have had a reply from the housing association. So things are progressing.

This weekend I want to try and get a plan for the computers at home, how to connect a wireless network and what to take with use to connect to dial up broadband. Any one know a good broadband supplier in the Shetlands.

Tomorrow I am going with my step-son to watch Luton (his team) play plymouth (my team). Plymouth have not had a good record her over the last few years. I hope this weather improves. athough Aberdeen (close to the Shetlnads) was supposed to be sunny today.

More later this weekend.

Her parent and sister came up from Kent, via Ikea. Julia had a wonderful day. With presents, cards and cakes.

On Sunday her sons took us out for lunch at The Warden Tavern. All I felt like dong afterwards as falling asleep.

Tuesday will be our 2nd Wedding Anniversay. Anyone know what that is like, paper, china, pearl or gold etc? We are going out the Thr Raven at Hexton. All this food does not do the waistline any good. Still I need to get into my Santa suit before we go to the Shetlands.

I must try to add some pictures next.

So much to do. The boys are going to stay in the house, so we do not have to worry about removals yet. But I am making lists of things we will need eventually.

The house that we are going to stay in for the first few month is furnished and Julia plans to load the car up with things we will need like food and clothes.

This weekend is Julia's birhtday and her mum and sister are coming up. Then next week it is our wedding anniversay. It would be nice to get a new shed before we go to the Shetlands, but I don't think we will have time

My wife and I are off to the Shetlands to live. We are going to move from sunny Luton and live in Lerwick (hopefully).

Why are we going? Was God sending us there? We have asked oursleves thses questions many times. A job came up and Julia applied for it and got an interview. Things fell into place and so it seemed like we were meant to go.

So Julia has a job to go to. We have somewhere to stay until March and we will arrive in Lerwick at 7am New Year's eve!!!!! So this is my attempt at a blog to record our preparations. It will also allow me to practice before we go. When we get there we can tell our families what is happening by keeping this up to date, as long as we get internet access.

If you live on the Shetlands, or have moved up there from England please let me know what you think of the place. Julia and I visited for 3 days for her interview, so we have had a very brief look. The second day it was so misty we could not see much. I drove around all day and did not see the wind farm until the last day when the weather was glorious.

That is all for now folks!!!
